Barbara Strzelecki, 96, of Covington, GA, passed away on June 26, 2020, after suffering a stroke. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Strzelecki  and Louise (Eric) Hey, granddaughter Natalie Hey, all of Covington, GA, 2 sisters-in-law, Phyllis Marotta of Pompano Beach, FL, and Elizabeth Strzelecki of Baldwinsville, NY, and a large number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William Strzelecki.

Barbara was born and raised in Syracuse, NY, where she worked for Syracuse China. She enjoyed going out on adventures, word search puzzle books, and Wheel of Fortune. In her late 60's and 70's, she also delivered the morning paper in Syracuse.

Barbara loved her family and friends dearly, taking care of everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, as well as friend's children, taking them along to go apple picking and to get ice cream. Her heart's desire was to become a mother herself and she was thrilled when she had 2 girls of her own. Her daughters were always grateful to have a strong role model who encouraged them to be independent.

Barbara was well-known to be an excellent cook. Her family loved her Italian cooking while friends and family raved about her pierogies and lemon meringue pies. Pretty much anything she made was going to be loved by one and all.

Knowing how to touch everyone's heart, Barbara was greatly loved. She was fondly referred to as Grandma Barb and Miss Barb by many children of family friends. She lovingly referred to her own granddaughter as a "capatosta", but it was heard and translated in the family as "cup of toast". She and Natalie shared a special bond and she will be greatly missed!

She was a member of Transfiguration Church in Syracuse, NY, for many years, then North Syracuse Christian Church, until she moved in 2007 to Covington, GA, and attended Crosspoint Christian Church in Conyers, GA. She is being laid to rest at Assumption Cemetery in Syracuse, NY, on July 7, 2020 at 11 am.Image

To my cousins - Louise and Mary,
Aunt Barbara will always hold a special place in my heart. Growing up I know we only saw each other once a year and a few visits in between. I enjoyed each and every one of those moments with all of you. Aunt Barbara treated me with a little bit of a tender touch because I was sensitive and she knew that about me, but she used her huge and wonder sense of humor to do that. I absolutely loved her smile and the way she was protective over you girls. She made me wear my first training bra, as a matter of fact, she gave me one of your girls and made me put it on right then and there, lol. She was one of a kind, and I wish I could have spent more time with you all, but I will cherish the wonderful memories that I do have for eternity. Love and hugs. Echo
