Amy Katheryn Wood passed into the arms of the Lord Tuesday November 4, 2025.
Amy was born in Durham, NC, as the first-born child of Thomas and Violet (Hudson) Wood. She graduated with honors from Warner Robins High School, where she was an active member of the Beta Club and French Club—early signs of her lifelong drive and achievement.
Amy began her college journey at Georgia Tech but paused her studies after marrying and briefly taking the name Amy Paulk. After the marriage, she resumed her education as Amy Wood and earned her Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, graduating with high honors.
Amy began her long and dedicated career at AT&T, retiring from the company in 2020. She earned numerous awards and certifications from both AT&T and Lucent and was a co-holder of a patent from Lucent Labs. She was an on-site AT&T host in both the 1984 Los Angeles and 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Amy remained a member of the Project Management Institute until her retirement.
Amy’s greatest joy came from family. She adopted a son, Jonathan Wood, and would say he was her greatest achievement because he has grown into a fine man and became a father as he and his wife blessed her with Camden and Sarah, who were her heart’s delight.
She took her job as Big Sister very seriously. She managed the primary caregiving for her parents as they aged and passed. She continued to be the anchor that held the family together as we all found our way in the world. Advisor, Supporter, and Friend – she could be the bossy big sister and the kind loving confidant.
Amy had a long and warm relationship with Perimeter Church, a member, for over 30 years. Well known and well loved, after retirement she was proud to become a Shepherdess and fulfilled her duties and showed love of others as long as she could.
Amy faced her cancer battle with the help of her faith; she was strong and very brave. Though she lost that fight, her spirit remained unbroken.
Rest in peace, sweet Amy; you will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Survived by:
Son Jonathan Wood and his wife Lauren Short Wood; grandchildren Camden and Sara.
Sister Gail Wood; brother Tommy Wood and his wife Jill Wesinger Wood; nephews Maxwell and Andrew Wood. Cousins and a very special Aunt Joyce.
