Betty Hoffman Woodward passed away peacefully in hospice care in Gainesville, GA on October 29th after a brief battle with a bone marrow disease and long-term heart problems. Betty was born in 1932 in Fulton County to Lila Mae Mann Hoffman and Byron Hoffman. Most of her life, before graduating from Conyers High School in 1950, was spent between Decatur, where her mother lived and worked, and her maternal grandparents' farm in southeast Rockdale County. A child of the Great Depression, she endured poverty and hardship before leaving home to work for Sears and Roebuck. Though no children of her own, she was always delighted to be around the children of her cousins. She also took pleasure in visiting with friends at the Barrow County Senior Center and strived to attend even as her strength was slipping away in the last weeks of her life. Betty is survived by her brother, Ronald White (Eileen), and many cousins in the Mann and Hoffman families. A memorial service is planned for November 12 at 1 pm at Honey Creek Woodlands Cemetery within the grounds of the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, GA.
