Carolyn Joann (Wilson) Howard

Carolyn Joann Howard, lovingly known as Joann, died unexpectedly October 11, 2023, at Emory Decatur Hospital in Decatur, GA, at the age of 72. She was born July 20, 1951, in Calhoun, GA, daughter of John Henry and Tinnie Gladys Wilson. Joann was a quiet and gentle woman, who loved the Lord, enjoyed watching Christian TV programs, reading her Bible and other religious books, was an avid sports fan, loved the color red (her 5 favorite teams have that color in common), enjoyed sending and receiving cards, and enjoyed working puzzles for fun. 

Joann is predeceased by her husband, Walter William Howard. They met in Calhoun, GA and married on June 29,1974 and were married for more than 41 years. They have one son, William Scott Howard, of Doraville, GA. Joann is also predeceased by her brother, John Wilson, and nephew, Robbie Norrell.

Joann is survived by her son, William Scott Howard of Doraville, GA; sister, Shirley Norrell, and brother-in-law, Jimmy Norrell of Ranger, GA; brother-in-law, David G Howard and sister-in-law, Jo T Howard of Tuscaloosa, AL; sister-in-law, Jewel Howard of Tuscaloosa, AL; nephews: Michael Howard, Patt Howard, Todd Howard, Jason Norrell, and Keith Wilson; nieces: Terri Hunnicutt, and Sandi Thomas. Joann is also survived by Nora Maddox and Sandra Haslett, her two best friends who were as close as sisters, and held a very special place in Joann’s life. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, 11 am, at Crossroads Church of Dunwoody, 4805 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody, GA. Lunch will follow for family and friends.
