Dana Davis Obituary

Dana Milton Davis, 63, of Lilburn, Georgia passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022, surrounded by his beloved wife and children. Dana was born August 24, 1959 in Houston, Texas to Rex and Barbara Davis.

Dana was truly larger than life; the joyful attitude that he kept throughout his 22 years of battling cancer was due to his unwavering faith. He believed knowing Jesus was everything, and he centered his faith on the constant presence of Christ in his life. Dana’s teaching, his weekly blog, Journey (https://airwoof.org/journey/), and his many parable-like stories were reflections of knowing Jesus intimately. He was indeed Dana’s lifelong companion and dearest friend.

Dana started his teaching and coaching career at Greater Atlanta Christian School in August of 1981. Over 42 years, he served as math and Bible teacher, basketball and tennis coach, High School Dean of Students, Middle and Elementary School Assistant Principal, Missions Coordinator, Counselor, Director of GAC Summer Camp, and many other roles. Dana used each of these positions to call attention to Jesus. It didn't matter if you encountered Dana in the classroom, on a basketball court, or at a student discipline meeting; he had a way of cutting through the noise and bringing the focus back to Jesus. It was his way. It was his ministry.

Many people all over the world call Dana amigo, פריינד, vän, přítel, vriend, друг, and friend. Dana had a big heart for overseas missions. He traveled on well over 60 mission trips. He believed he had the best news, and he made it his mission to go and share to all corners of the world any time he felt called! Dana believed that God involves many people to accomplish His purposes–people who walk with Him and people who may not even know Him yet. He felt privileged to simply be a part of God’s Kingdom work.

Dana was a loving husband to Susan Davis, whom he met the summer before high school when they were both working as camp counselors. They loved each other well and made incredible memories for 41 years. Dana was a proud father to Taylor Davis, MacKinsey Stanley, and Karlyn Davis, foster son John Aaron Turner, and goddaughter Sherill Baker. He loved spending time with his family, traveling, telling animated stories, laughing, and enjoying healthy competition! He was an incredible Opa to Wilkes, Owen, Macy, Keightley, and Corrie Mae. He always came to as many sporting events as he possibly could and took every chance to cheer them on. Dana, however, was best at making the regular days special, always cherishing the time he had with his beloved family and friends.

Dana’s unpretentious wisdom from God allowed him to bring young and old alongside him to gaze upon and enjoy the fullness of the mysteries, truths, and goodness of God. He will truly be missed.

Dana is survived by his parents, Rex and Barbara Davis, wife, Susan Davis, son, Taylor (Emma) Davis, daughters MacKinsey (Jordan) Stanley and Karlyn Davis, foster son, John Aaron Turner, goddaughter, Sherill Baker, grandchildren, Wilkes Davis, Owen Stanley, Macy Davis, Keightley Stanley, and Corrie Mae Stanley, brothers Delane (Ginny) Davis and Brian (Sondra) Davis, sister, Jena Kay (Joe) Pope, nephews, Jeremy, Jason, Caleb, Noah, and Bryson Davis and Cameron Pope, niece, Samantha Brink, and a host of extended family and close friends.

The burial will be a private family event.

A Memorial service is scheduled for December 4, 2022, at 4:00 pm in the Long Forum at Greater Atlanta Christian School. This celebration is open to all who knew and loved him.
