Donna Joan Fisher

Donna Joan Fisher, 89, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2020 after an extended illness. She was born on March 15, 1931, to Donald and Martha Fisher in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is survived by her sister Jenny Jones of Macon, Georgia. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Betty Pettit of Jacksonville, Florida.

Donna lived with Jenny, her husband Greg, and their family for her last nine years. She was “Aunt Donna” to four nieces and five nephews in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina, and to fifteen great nieces and nephews.

In 1952, Donna completed nurse’s training at St. Vincent Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.  As a registered nurse, she worked for many years in the operating, recovery, and intensive care units of St. Vincent’s, and later at Baptist and Methodist Hospitals as well as at Maxwell House Coffee Company and All Saints Nursing Home.

As a young woman, Donna regularly painted many beautiful pictures and loved to perform in local musical productions. Throughout her life, she was a prolific letter and journal writer and a great lover of animals, especially cats. Donna was very devoted to her family and was the primary caretaker for her mother in the last decades of her mother’s life.

Donna was a dedicated Catholic and a longtime member of St. Catherine’s Catholic church in Orange Park, Florida. She was educated in Catholic schools and faithfully attended mass every Sunday and holy day of her life until she was no longer able to drive. Eternal Word Television was a source of great comfort to her in her last years.

A graveside service will be held at Jacksonville Memorial Gardens on Monday, June 15 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Catherine’s Catholic Church located at 1649 Kingsley Avenue in Orange Park, Florida.
