Douglas Wayne Jones, affectionately known as Pug, entered Heaven’s gates at the age of 65, embodying the same quiet courage and fearlessness that defined his life. After a six-year battle with cancer, which he faced with remarkable resilience and grace, Pug's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He was not just a friend, brother, son, partner, and husband; he was a beacon of kindness and strength, a testament to the power of positivity in the face of adversity.
Pug’s passions were as vibrant as his spirit. He found joy in the thrill of skydiving, where he embraced the exhilarating rush of freefalling through the sky. He was an avid outdoorsman, relishing the serenity of nature while hunting and fishing. Pug also enjoyed the camaraderie of friends during rounds of golf, dart games, and pool, where laughter and good-natured competition were the order of the day. Whether he was sharing a drink or engaging in spirited conversations, Pug had a unique ability to make everyone feel valued and appreciated.
His taste in entertainment reflected his playful and curious nature. Pug had a deep love for classic rock music, often losing himself in the melodies of iconic bands and artists. He cherished the nostalgia of old-school cartoons and classic television shows, which transported him back to simpler times. Pug was also a devoted fan of science fiction movies. However, his love for knowledge was perhaps best exemplified by his passion for “Jeopardy!”—a game he mastered to the point where he became a formidable opponent in front of the TV.
Pug's life journey began in Nashville Tennessee before relocating to Georgia with his family as a young child. He graduated from Rockdale County High School. His professional life included work at W.W. Grainger and Action Glass, where he was respected not only for his work ethic but also for his warm personality.
As we reflect on Pug's life, we remember the family and friends he leaves behind. He is preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Joyce R. Jones, his brothers, William “David” Jones and “Donald” Sidney Jones, and his beloved wife, Deidre (Dee Dee) Jones. Pug is survived by his sister, Dara Jones-Wilson, and a host of nieces and nephews—Audrey Leigh Milligan (Joseph), Holly Christian (Terrell), and Devin Collins (Gavin)—who carry forward his legacy of love and laughter. His partner, Donna Dixon, stands as a testament to the deep connections he fostered, a reminder of the love that shared with others and others shared with him.
Pug’s life was marked by cherished memories and shared experiences. He taught us the importance of facing life’s challenges with courage and never taking a single moment for granted. His wit, his passions, and his unwavering spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we gather to celebrate the life of Douglas Wayne Jones, let us honor his memory by embodying the qualities he exemplified—kindness, resilience, and an unyielding zest for life. Pug may have departed from this world, but his spirit will forever remain alive in the stories we share, the laughter we echo, and the love we carry forward. In the end, Pug’s legacy is not one of sorrow, but rather a celebration of a life well-lived, filled with adventure, friendship, and an unwavering love for those around him.
A social celebration to honor Pug will be March 30, 2025 from 1:00-4:00 pm at QC’s Bar and Grill, 2200 Old Covington Hwy, Conyers GA 30012
