Finn Fritz Duerr, age 74, of Lilburn, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, after a courageous battle with stomach cancer.
Born on September 13, 1951, in Huntsville, Finn lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his profession, and his community. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1973 with a degree in political science and went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from Emory University School of Law in 1976.
Finn practiced law in Decatur for more than 40 years, earning the respect and friendship of colleagues and clients alike through his integrity, wisdom, and steadfast commitment to others.
Above all, Finn was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Sally Adams Duerr; his daughter, Anna Duerr Noack; his son, Taylor Philipp Duerr; and his daughter-in-law, Sujari Alimah Duerr. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Henry Duerr, Finn Duerr, Harrison Noack, Elizabeth Noack, Lili Noack, and Aspen Noack.
Finn is also survived by his brothers, Rolf Duerr and Eirik Duerr; his sister-in-law, Ana Mary Duerr; his nieces and nephews, Erik Duerr and his wife Alyssa Duerr, Karl Duerr, Karen Duerr, and Sylvia Duerr; his great-niece, Emma Jane Duerr; and his sister-in-law, Anne Adams Cuttino.
One of Finn’s greatest joys and proudest accomplishments was helping plan and build The Woods of Parkview Swim and Tennis Club alongside his best friend, John Rall. Together, they founded the neighborhood summer league swim team, creating lasting memories and opportunities for generations of young swimmers and families. Finn also devoted countless hours to the Gwinnett Swim League and the Gwinnett High School Swimming League. His love for the sport and commitment to service extended to the international stage when he served as a stroke and turn official during the 1996 Paralympics.
Finn loved travel and treasured the many trips he made to Norway with his family. He took great joy in carefully planning every aspect of those journeys, especially sharing family landmarks and heritage sites in and around Bergen. Summers spent on beach vacations with family were among his happiest memories and became cherished traditions for those he loved.
Finn will be remembered for his generous spirit, sharp mind, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family and community. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his work, mentorship, friendship, and service.
A funeral service will be held on June 8, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at Honey Creek Woodlands. Following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to gather at the Duerr family home in Lilburn.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
