Jack Whisenhunt Sr. Obituary

On Friday, January 11, 2019, Jack McKee Whisenhunt, loving husband and father of five children passed away at the age of 84. Jack had been battling a sudden illness for 40 days before passing on to his heavenly reward.

Jack was born on August 22, 1934 in Mobile, AL to Percy and Lillian Jones. On November 22, 1952 he married Fabiola Tirado Plata of Bogota, Colombia in Fernandina Beach, FL. They remained married until his death. During their 66 years together, his work took him and his growing family around the world before settling permanently in Atlanta, GA in 1970. They raised two sons, Jack Jr. and Steve, and three daughters, Karen, Livia, and Andrea

He received his degree in chemical engineering from The Alabama Polytechnic Institute at Auburn. He was a gregarious, charming, and loving man with insatiable intellectual curiosity. He was a Master-level chess player, a passion that remained with him all his life. He was also an outdoorsman and adventurer, exploring the seas, jungles, mountains, and rivers of the Philippine Islands, and Colombia. And of course, he was very much loved as a husband and father, and greatly appreciated as a teacher and provider.

All who knew him were charmed by his smile, sense of humor, wit, and wisdom. His capacity for detail, and his interest in all things, made for an individual with whom conversation was always interesting, entertaining, challenging and often intense. He was a beautiful and fascinating person who will be missed by all who knew him.

Jack was preceded in death by his father James Sterling Whisenhunt, his mother Lillian McKee Whisenhunt, and his grandson Stephan Bernard Whisenhunt. As well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren, Jack is survived by his wife Fabiola Tirado Whisenhunt, his five children Jack Whisenhunt Jr, Karen Whisenhunt Gandy, Livia Whisenhunt, Steve Whisenhunt, and Andrea Whisenhunt Carpenter, his sisters Joann May Jones Spiris and Sterling Louise Whisenhunt Parker, his brothers James Curtis Jones and Robert Eagon Whisenhunt, his six grandchildren Sarah Whisenhunt Ioup, Amy Whisenhunt, James Whisenhunt, Alex Whisenhunt, Daniel Rodriguez, and Jessica Gandy Hunt.
