Obituary

Mr. James Gerard “Jim” Knuerr, age 66, a resident of Riverdale, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Jim is the son of the late Gerard (Jerry) and Lurline (Kay) Knuerr. Jim is survived by his loving wife Thach and sons Thorin, Elrond and Dain Knuerr of Riverdale, GA; sisters, Kerry Blount and husband Bruce of Fort Worth, TX, Cathy Knuerr of Orlando, FL, Clare Schlumberger and husband Ernie of St. Mountain, GA and Carole Bennett of Atlanta, GA; brother-in-law Sinny Oeur and wife Polin Nou of Riverdale, GA; and sister-in-law Sithy Oeur of Jacksonville, FL. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jeff Knuerr and brother-in-law Sokhom Chan. Jim had a successful 30+ year career in the in-flight catering industry. Companies that he worked for included Marriott, Dobbs House, and Gate Gourmet in Atlanta, GA where he was a quality assurance supervisor for the kitchens in charge of several domestic and international airlines. Jim’s finest quality was his love for his family. He was a true family man. He enjoyed taking them on vacations to Daytona Beach where they stayed at the same oceanfront hotel where his parents took him when he was a child. They enjoyed theme parks in Orlando, Florida. He also took them on fishing trips close to home. He enjoyed attending live concerts with acts such as Grand Funk Railroad, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. His favorite artists included The Beatles, Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson.  He was a skilled airplane and starship-model builder. Both a science and sci-fi fan, he took his family to Kennedy Space Center in Florida. He enjoyed the original Star Trek series on TV and brought his telescope outside for the family to view the rings of Saturn. An avid reader, Jim enjoyed the Lord of the Rings long before the movies were made. He watched Turner Classic movies. He liked the Peanuts Holiday shows and the original animated Grinch cartoon. Jim liked to watch car racing and Falcon’s football games.  He had a great sense of humor and liked to laugh at his own jokes which made the jokes even funnier. Jim loved animals. His pets included two dogs, fish, and a bearded dragon which resided in Jim’s home as part of the family. Husband, father, brother, uncle, supervisor, and friend, Jim’s life easily encompassed all these worlds in a profoundly deep way. We love and miss you Jim.
