James Richard Williams, 74, of Conyers, Georgia died peacefully in his home on January 8th, 2024. Told that he would die from heart failure on January 25th of 2023, Jim defied all odds and lived another year. His 12 bonus months were spent with his family and filled with Mellow Mushroom House specials, Ingles and Kroger sales, and unlimited refills of his favorite drink, Coca-Cola. He gifted his family one last Thanksgiving and Christmas, and then celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife, Jeanne, before finally allowing his worn out heart to rest.
James was born in Elmira, New York in 1949 to James Roy and Mary Allen Williams. He spent his childhood in his place of birth raised alongside his brothers, Allen and Mark Williams, and his sister, Mary Lou Williams. After high school, James attended Auburn Community College under the State Univeristy of New York where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Mathematical Science, later obtaining his Masters of Science and Administration from Nova University. Jim began his lifelong teaching career as a High School math teacher in Crescent City, Florida. He excelled at teaching teenagers and devoted a big part of his life to the Math programs and students at Crescent City High School and Pierson Taylor High School in Florida and Stockbridge High School and Union Grove High School in Georgia, retiring after 38 years with many accolades to his name including Teacher of the Year and having taught the Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Williams and is survived by his wife, Frances Jeanette Williams, his two daughters, Cassi Maureen Villanueva and Megan Sara Roberts, and his eight grandchildren, Magdalene Grace Villanueva, Micah James Villanueva, Clare Elizabeth Villanueva, Catherine Hope Villanueva, Sara Elizabeth Roberts, Martin Eugene Roberts III, Jolene Madison Roberts, and Lacy Jeanette Roberts.
The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 13th at 11:00 in the morning at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Conyers Georgia. The Interment will take place on Monday, January 15th at 1:00 in the afternoon at Honey Creek Woodlands in Conyers, Georgia.
