Janel Green Obituary

Janel Jeras Green passed on to her next life on November 2, 2023 in Atlanta, GA. She fought a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. At 55 years old, she is too young to leave her loving son, Sanders who is 16. She also leaves her devoted and loving mother, Carol and her sister Jacqui along with her family of Mike, Aurora and Ashton. And she leaves her marriage family The Greens. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Sanders Green Sr., and her Father Robert Anthony Jeras. She leaves behind countless friends and extended family members that she has inspired and loved.

Janel was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A dark curly haired cutie. She was stubborn and strong willed from the start, according to her mother; a trait that would serve her well as an adult advocating for women's rights. Janel loved to be outdoors in the sandbox, in the snow, and playing with friends. She joined the Girl Scouts and enjoyed swimming. She was wicked smart and achieved any goal she set her mind to... Music has been a big part of her life. When she moved to Minnesota in the 7th grade, she became an instant Prince fan. She went to many concerts through her teen years and was a bit of a groupie at The Suburbs, The Replacements, and at First Avenue concerts. She went through her "Punk" phase, shaving her head and wearing trench coats. She found her true self in college making lifelong friendships through Alpha Omincron Pi. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota in Child Psychology. Through those years she was a big advocate for those less fortunate and was especially fond of the mission and her work through The Boys and Girls Club. She also volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem. After college she worked as a coordinator for a company that ran Charter Schools and was transferred to a start up in Phoenix, AZ. from there, she moved to Atlanta, GA to be near family. It there where she began her work in Senior Services and volunteering while advocating for women's rights. She soon met the love of her life, Sanders Green. They were soon married and settled in Decatur, GA. Sanders was a good match and challenged her and supported her. A year later, Sanders Jr., was born, long and lanky with his Mother's curls. The woman who always said she didn't want children had changed her mind when she fell in love and became a fierce protector and amazing Mother. She found great joy being a parent and teaching Sanders Jr., how to become a strong, independent and involved young man. while being a parent and wife, she worked all the while with her most recent employment as Executive Director at Cathedral Towers. And if that weren't enough, she spent tireless hours in the little free time she had marching, fighting for the rights of others, and supporting political officials and candidates. She started up The Georgia Alliance for Social Justice. She helped organize the Women's March and the March for our Lives Atlanta and walked alongside John Lewis. She was very vocal about her beliefs. If you didn't agree with her, you were wrong, and she would tell you exactly why. Her Legacy will continue through the countless causes and marches she has helped and supported.
