Ruth Heusel Obituary

Ruth Helen (Stieglitz) Heusel, age 98 of Hiawassee, Georgia, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on May 22, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born on December 23, 1925, in Dortmund, Germany, to the late Wilhelm and Kathe Stieglitz. Ruth was her given name, but she was more commonly known as “Me Maw”, to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and the “Iron Maiden”, to most others because of her significant resilience and her great passion for life. Ruth met and married the love of her life Cleo Heusel, in 1950. They raised four children and were married for 56 years, before Cleo passed away in 2006. Memaw was the happiest when she was spending time with her loving family, whether it was baking the most exquisite pastries for her family, family vacations out west and to Europe, or simply just being together, family was always the foundation and corner stone of love. She was a kind and generous lady, that was always willing to help others in need, whether to lend a gentle ear to listen, or an enormous hug, she was always present. Ruth was faithful in her beliefs, a loving wife, devoted mother, endearing grandmother, and great grandmother and will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved her. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Wilhelm and Kathe Stieglitz, her husband Cleo Heusel, and her son Chris Heusel. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Alan (Barbara Griner) Heusel, Jeff (Lisa Bromley) Heusel, Suzan Heusel (Leroy) Ledford, Katie (Thompson) Heusel. Her grandchildren, Deena (John) Scott, Cindy Heusel Sower, Melissa Heusel (Richard) Tatarski, Amanda Heusel, Chritsie Schaner, Danniel (Hanna) Ledford, Sara Heusel, Esther Schaner, Casey Ledford, Shane Heusel, Zack Schaner, Kevin Heusel, Nicole Heusel (Stephen) Christner, Michael (Ashley) Ledford, Noel Heusel, numerous great and great great grandchildren, as well as a host of other loving family and friends. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
