Vivian Margaret (Weale) de Kok passed away at home on April 8, 2026. She was 82 years old and had resided in Atlanta since 1970.
She was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1943, and lived there until her early twenties, when she journeyed to London to attend finishing school at the Club of the Three Wise Monkeys in Knightsbridge. It was there that she met her husband, Peter de Kok, whom she married in 1965. They moved to Atlanta in 1970 (ostensibly for two years), and remained there for the next 50+ years.
Vivian was a devoted wife and mother, and was truly a helpmeet to her husband, as they worked together to build a successful business. She also found time to volunteer at her daughters’ schools, drive them to many activities, cook delicious meals, sew, do home renovations, and to garden. She made both her daughters’ exquisite wedding dresses, and knitted many lovely sweaters for her beloved grandchildren. She was a gracious and generous hostess to many business associates, often at the last minute when Peter forgot to let her know someone would be coming for dinner!
She loved the mountain house she and Peter built together and spent almost 20 years going back and forth from Atlanta to Jasper, entertaining and hosting friends and family from all over the world and hiking in the North Georgia Mountains. She was a regular fixture at the Atlanta Symphony, and the Botanical Gardens, where she was both a member and a volunteer. She enjoyed traveling, and meeting new people, particularly in their Duckpond neighborhood as she and Peter enjoyed many strolls there during the almost 40 years they lived in the area.
Vivian is survived by her loving and beloved husband of 60 years, Peter de Kok, and her two daughters, Gabriela (Tom) Probst, and Alexandra (Michael) Hook, as well as nine grandchildren, Eleanor, Cecilia, Florence, Rosalie, Ashley, Jeremy, James, William, and Henry, three great-grandchildren, Claire, Philip, and Lucy, as well as Twizel, her sweet pup. She will be sorely missed by many.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, April 16, at 10am, at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to the Our Lady of the Mountains St. Vincent de Paul Society. Checks can be mailed to OLM SVdP, 1908 Waleska Hwy 108, Jasper, GA 30143.
