William Eugene Lyerly
November 10, 1935 - September 21, 2019
Our beloved father and husband, William (Bill) Eugene Lyerly, 83, went home to be with Jesus on September 21, 2019. He passed at his home in McDonough, GA surrounded by his family.
Bill was born November 10, 1935 in Mooresville, NC, the son of Nyman and Marie Lyerly. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty; his four children, Sharon Lyerly, Laura Lyerly, William Lyerly, Jr. and his wife Cynthia, James Lyerly and his wife Kristin; his ten grandchildren, Danielle, Samantha, Harrison, Hailey, Aidan, Sara, Abraham, Julian, Lindsay, James, and his two great-grandchildren, Luke and Olivia. He is also survived by his sister, Julia Ann Wetmore, his sister-in-law, Cecile Boykin, and two brothers-in-law, Robert Wetmore and Perry Boykin, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bill was a faithful husband, a beloved and devoted father, and a loyal friend. He had an old fashioned work ethic and enjoyed his 20+ years at Delta where he retired as a General Manager in Data Communications. Upon his retirement, he kept himself busy tinkering around the house and holding several odd jobs. He loved God and loved being outdoors in His creation. He was an avid gardener and tended his yard to perfection. When his children were young, he enjoyed camping with the family. As he grew older, he enjoyed sitting on the back porch, watching the birds at his many bird feeders and houses, and observing the ways of nature.
In honor of his love for the outdoors, his ashes will be buried at Honey Creek Woodlands at a graveside service on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 11:00am. As this is a natural burial grounds, flower arrangements are not permitted. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
